Teaching language in city school

You don’t have to be professional teachers to have a great time helping students learn your native language. Without formal credentials or experience, and without even speaking lao, you can still be a tremendous asset to a local school, as you work under the guidance of local teachers.

Our programs are open to everyone. If you are on an extended holiday, a semester break, a time off from your regular job, or retired, you can fit right in. All you need is fluency in spoken English, French, Japanese or Chinese.

Local teachers are skilled in teaching the structural aspects of language, but typically have problems with pronunciation, and lack the confidence of a native speaker. Classes in practical conversation, when a volunteer native speaker is available, are a tremendous boost to language learners.

Students know that language abilities can pave the way to better jobs and a better future, and even if your visit is short, you can encourage and inspire them to learn. Of course each school has its own schedule and program, but you are welcome to bring your own teaching materials – even photos of your family and friends, or postcards from home.

Thai schools are often on holiday from March to mid-May and from the end of September to the start of November, but there is enough variation that we can accommodate your volunteer work whenever you are able to come.

 Volunteer Requirements:

Volunteer teachers must be 18, and fluent in the language they plan to teach, though no teaching certificate is needed. (A standard police background check from your home country is required, and we can help you with that.)

We will donate a percentage of the fee to the school for scholarships and teaching materials.
